Italy’s BRC Guides Israel Toward NGVs

A delegation from the Israeli government has visited Italy to evaluate and to learn how to introduce better the use of natural gas for vehicles in Israel. The visitation is part of the government’s resolution, declared in January 2013, to reduce Israeli dependence on petroleum-based fuels in transportation.
The resolution calls for transition of transportation in Israel to petroleum alternatives between the years 2013 and 2025, and to allow for the feasibility of reducing the weight of petroleum-based fuels as an energy source in transportation in Israel at a rate of approximately 30% by 2020, and by approximately 60% by 2025, in relation to the forecasted consumption for those years.
Due to the huge reservoir of natural gas that was found in the sea of Israel and the potential to use natural gas based fuels as an immediate solution, an inter-ministerial team is working to create the basics directives and procedures to use the natural gas as a transportation fuel for vehicles.
In order to further promote the knowledge regarding natural gas for transportation and to enhance international collaboration, the delegation visited BRC factories last week. The delegation headed by the Ministry of Transportation and the Fuel Choices Initiative at the Prime Minister’s Office, included representatives from various ministries such as the Gas Authority at the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Israeli Institute of Standards and from public transportation companies.
The delegation visited the CNG Station in Turin in which there are a series of about 50 dispensers, then called on BRC headquarters where they were greeted by Mr. Costamagna, BRC founder and owner, and Mr. Massimiliano Fissore, CEO of the BRC Compressors department. The R&D center of BRC, the Cubo Gas design and production area, and the NGV Kits OEM installation plant and production followed.
The delegation also received presentations and held private meetings with BRC representatives, Cubo Gas compressors and Penta, a design and engineering company who presented “How to design a CNG fueling station and the directives that are in the base line of the design”. In addition, they were presented with a presentation about the new development of dual-fuel systems designated to be used in buses to reduce CO2 and particulate matters emissions and to save costs in Euro II and Euro III Buses.
