Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), a public utilities company in Colombia’s second largest city, has continued its commitment to sustainable mobility with the opening of its ninth compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station on Wednesday July 31. The CNG facility is operating at an Esso service station and is one of 59 CNG stations that occur in the Aburrá Valley where Medellin is located.
“This new EPM station demonstrates the company’s commitment to expand the use of natural gas vehicles in the city and the Aburrá Valley, in line with the sustainable mobility program enacted by the Mayor of Medellin,” said EPM general manager and EPM Group leader, Juan Esteban Calle Restrepo.
Within the concept of sustainable mobility , which aims to boost environmentally friendly fuel use, EPM offers NGV service stations with its own brand, and workshops for conversion of vehicles from petrol to natural gas in exclusive partnership with Suragas, Gasexpress and Eurogas.
It also offers a Green Points Benefits Program which rewards drivers of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) through the accumulation and redemption of points for free vehicle refueling. Points can also be used to repay EPM the cost of conversion to CNG. Furthermore, EPM conversion clients are able to go to any of the three partner-workshops for CNG installation, maintenance, safety certification and five-year NGV re-certification.
Colombia’s developing NGV market will be celebrated as part of NGV2013 Colombia international conference and exhibition on Natural Gas Vehicles, which will take place on November 6-8 at Las Americas Resort & Centro de Convenciones in Cartagena, Colombia. This event has been endorsed by NGV Global.
