The Mexican State of Jalisco, internationally acknowledged as the home of the alcoholic beverage Tequila, is now also home to a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling station and the State’s first fleet of CNG buses. At the inauguration of the station, Governor Jorge Aristóteles Sandoval Díaz introduced the Dina-manufactured model Linner G fleet of 50 new public transport units, which began operations this week between El Salto and Guadalajara, saying the buses will reduce air pollution by 90%.
He stated that these 50 new units will also save 50% of the cost of fuel, in comparison to those using diesel fuel, and that the reduction in emissions will benefit the population of El Salto, Juanacatlán, Tlaquepaque, Ixtlahuacán, Tonalá, Zapotlanejo and Guadalajara, the state’s capital city where the fleet will be based.
Finally, he informed that last Sunday a New Agreement on Public Transport was signed with the bus companies in order to support the substitution of old vehicles with new, cleaner and more comfortable buses, accomplishing the biggest and most ambitious transformation of public transport in decades.
Purchased by Autotransportes Guadalajara El Salto, the Dina buses are powered by Cummins ISL G six-cylinder 8.9-liter 250 hp (@2,200 rpm) engines, conform to EPA 2010 emissions level, and have seating capacity for 41 passengers.
