CNG Fuel Consumption Up in Bolivia’s Big Cities

The city of El Alto has 27 CNG stations, five more than in 2013, an almost 25% increase. According to data supplied by the ANH District Coordinator, CNG consumption in El Alto amounted to 82,950,457 cubic meters in 2014, up 12% compared to 73,879,955 m3 recorded for 2013. Santa Cruz recorded even higher consumption, selling 264,587,937 m3, while in Cochabamba consumption was 204,698,868 m3.
“CNG is an appropriate economic fuel for public transport in the city of El Alto where many carriers have chosen to change the energy matrix from gasoline to natural gas and have participated in the Government’s free vehicle conversion program,” noted Walter Segovia, director of ANH District Coordination.
In a related, unconfirmed article published by Bolivia’s La Razón, ANH has authorised the construction of 37 CNG stations this year — Santa Cruz 20, Cochabamba 8, La Paz 7, Tarija 2.
