Concrete Fleet Gains CNG Fuel Station

Pennsylvania-based Silvi Concrete is partnering with U.S. Oil for the construction of a GAIN® Clean Fuel station adjacent to Silvi’s Morrisville concrete plant, to supply compressed natural gas (CNG) to the concrete ready-mix company’s fleet of CNG trucks. Silvi is adding 30 Oshkosh Front Discharge Trucks with 12 liter CNG engines and two CNG tractors for cement hauling.
“We’re excited with this partnership,” said Larry Silvi, president of Silvi Concrete. “Utilizing CNG will help us better manage our costs. Equally important, it will help us reach our goal of becoming more environmentally friendly while allowing us to deliver the best, most cost-efficient product to our customers.”
When construction of the facility is complete in November, the new station will add to U.S. Oil’s infrastructure goal to provide easy access to CNG in all of the major trucking sectors within the country. “Partnering with Silvi is a great opportunity as we continue to grow GAIN’s footprint nationwide,” said Bill Renz, general manager for GAIN Clean Fuel. “We’re on track to add at least 30 new stations per year as more carriers seek to convert their fleets. One of the main advantages for fleets converting to CNG is that it is a cost-effective alternative to diesel fuel, offering a savings of more than $2 per gallon equivalent. “Carriers are recognizing the fuel cost savings of CNG and, with a strong national network in place, are converting their fleets from operating on diesel fuel,” Renz said. “In addition to the cost savings, CNG has lower carbon emissions, which is better for the environment, and it’s also a domestically produced product, reducing the impact of global conditions typically seen on other fuels such as diesel.”
U.S. Oil is a division of U.S. Venture, located in Appleton, Wisconsin and currently operates 17 GAIN stations, and has an additional 15 new GAIN Clean Fuel stations under construction.
